what makes our programs effective?

Heroes programs develop positive mental health while giving students the tools needed to navigate adveristy.

Impact Society's Heroes programs focus on celebrating each individual's strengths. These evidence-based programs help youth build confidence, character, and integrity, leading them to live with purpose and success.

To date, more than 250,000 Canadian youth have participated in our Heroes programs. They receive high praise from educators, parents, and, most importantly, the students themselves.

Heroes programs fulfill up to 76% of health and life skills requirements for grades 6-9 across Canada, plus a significant proportion of language arts curriculum outcomes.

With the provided training, online tools, and ongoing support for educators, it's easy to implement Heroes into your learning plans. Participation in the Heroes Programs can significantly improve your students' well-being in the following areas:

• Self-awareness • Self-management • Social-awareness • Self-care

Validated by researchers, our programs focus on the four dimensions of strength-based learning. They make youth feel valued and safe and empower them to think more optimistically about the future.

why our approach
works

Our vision is for every young person to have the tools and support they need to increase their resilience and thrive. The Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary recently recognized the success of this initiative through a longitudinal study conducted by David Nordstokke.

The study looked at the outcomes of 87 Heroes participants and utilized a measurement tool called the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale. The study found that youth resilience is increased by 45% with the Heroes program. Confidence, self-esteem, character development, and integrity are all improved.

“Our goal is to get ahead of the curve and provide youth with the social-emotional tools & systems of support they require to have flourishing mental well-being. By doing so, we can increase their capacity for resilience and many other social-emotional learning factors.”

how we use the flourishing life framework

To measure Heroes participant progress, Impact Society uses the Flourishing Life Framework.

The Flourishing Life Model has been used to assess Heroes and various educational systems worldwide. This multimodal approach to child and youth development addresses the need for youth to have the essential core competency factors in order to move from at-risk to with-potential.

We assess our programs using the Flourishing Life Model by focusing on the three pillars of a young person's development and well-being. These pillars focus on personal, environmental, and performance-based strengths.

The Heroes programs check in on how students are doing by asking questions before and after the program. After the pre-assessment, students get a Sparks Report. This report shows them their top three strengths and two areas to improve upon. After the program, the teachers get a final report which highlights the growth in the mental well-being of all of their students. Because of many years of research using this pre and post-assessment process, we know that the Heroes program positively benefits each student by increasing individual resilience and well-being.

The Flourishing Life Model is a research-based approach that serves as a guide to youth development.

Built on a solid foundation of nearly thirty years of research and practical experience, the Flourishing Life Model relies on the established principles of positive psychology. This model focuses on individuals' strengths and potential rather than their problems or deficiencies.
